Straight Pool was invented in the 15th Century. It was popular in the United States from the 1960s until it was abandoned by eight-ball or nine-ball. Straight Pool was also featured in The Hustler, a 1961 film. Jayshaw established the current straight-pool record of 714 point in 2022.
There are no limitations on the number and type of object balls that can go in straight pool games. Any ball that is spotted on a table can be taken by the shooter, except the apex. The shooter can either pocket the ball in an open or safety position, but it does not count towards a point. It is also possible for a shooter to pocket a ball when it is in a tie up or dead ball.
Straight pool has one restriction: the shooter cannot run more than ten balls. The shooter will always keep the last remaining object ball in the rack after the cueball is taken. The shooter will finish the game by taking the last object from the table.
Straight Pool can be played by two people. Straight Pool is played using a standard 15-ball rack. Each player may take one ball and break the other 14 in a set. The game goes to the winner if the player scores the most points.

The opening break is the shot that you take in straight pool. It is usually soft break. This is done to grab the bottom corner balls from the pack. The cue ball should then be rolled across three rails to the corner of where you broke.
