You must be able to hit a great stun shot in pool. It could make the difference between winning or losing. There are many ways to play the ball, each with its own rules and methods. But you cannot just hit the ball. You must hit the ball hard. The greater the chances that it will be able to pocket, the more you hit it.
A stunshot is a shot which requires a strong hit. In a straight pool game, this means the cue ball has to travel straight in, and not veer off course. This is often achieved by putting a jack up, or elevating the butt end of the cue.
A "break", or shot made at the final OB of a straight game of pool, is called a "break". There are several different types of break shots. Some are used to get out of trouble, while others are designed to make it easier to score. One example is the golden break or the golden pocket.
Another is the breakout shot, or breakout. This shot can be used to score a quick shot if the ball cluster is out-of-position. If you're lucky, your shot will jar up your opponent and put him in a bad spot. A good hit is often rewarded with an OB that is still on top of the table. This makes the task easier to get the ball off.
A "break" isn't the only way to win. Other ways to do the same thing include the following:
Grade A shot: This is a shot with high success rates. An example: A hit that is good will first strike the OB, and then a second hit may be able to pocket the OB.
Fancy shot: This is a rare skill that takes a lot of practice and a prop or two. A "J" stroke is a shorter, more punchy stroke. A "J" stroke, unlike a jab stroke is curved like a pendulum. The shooter can also benefit from a jelly roll, which is a roll made of the cueball.
Fancy-looking: Another name for a fancy-looking shot is a "flight." Flight is a fancy looking shot that may not be as accurate but is nonetheless the most impressive. Normally, a flight is a low percentage shot, such as a top/bottom spin or a flyer.
Stun shot: Although it may not be as glamorous or as popular as other types, a stun shot is very important. It's a good idea to have it on hand. If you don't, your opponent might easily win.
The jelly roll, the stun shot and the nip drawing are all other common names for stun shots. But which is the most important one?
A nip drawing is a good idea in the pool world because it prevents the CB jumping off the table. A nip stroke is more complex, since the follow-through can be minimal.
