Steve Davis was a dominant force during the early years when snooker became a major television game. He won six world championships and many ranking titles over his career. He is a well-known and successful snooker player and a skilled poker player. Davis is also the author of several books that cover his career and his position as director at WPBSA. His roles as a television commentator, director of Cue Zone Into Schools and a director has contributed to his wealth.

At the age of 17, Steve Davis became a professional tennis player. He made his first appearance at a ranking tournament, the Pontin's Open. Tony Meo beat him. After his first season as a professional, Davis won several titles, including three B&H Masters at Wembley.

Davis, after a slow start to his professional life, regained his title as the world's top snooker player. He won five titles in the world in 1988 and 1989. In 1989, he was the first to win The Triple Crown. He was also a first player to win both the UK Championship and the world title. He also won many tournaments in the 1980s.

The 1990s saw Davis' dominance wane, and he lost a lot of records to Stephen Hendry. He lost the World Championship to Jimmy White which saw him fall to number two on the official rankings. Davis was then unable to defend his title in 1997, losing to Ronnie O'Sullivan. This loss saw him fall out of the top 16 rankings, for the first-time in many years.


After a slow start to his second season, Davis began to show signs of improvement. He reached the quarter-finals at both the Shanghai Masters Masters and Grand Prix. In 1988, he was named BBC Sports Personality and Year. He received the OBE in 2001 for his services to snooker. He is also a passionate poker player. In fact, he hosts a weekly radio show called Phoenix FM. In 2010, he made his 30th appearance on The Crucible.

The following season, Davis remained on the top of the world rankings. He won numerous ranking event titles and made it to the final of the Welsh Open. His greatest accomplishment was to be able remain in the top 16 after his 50th. He was also on the PTC circuit for several years, including 2012 PTC Masters. He was one of three players to reach the PTC quarter-finals consecutively in a single season.
