The official snooker rankings system is an official listing that ranks players based their recent performance. The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association administers it. This listing is updated following each event in the ranking series. In order to be eligible to play on the World Snooker Tour, a player must have a current snooker world ranking. The seeding of players is based on how they perform in certain tournaments and their ranking.
The first two years of the snooker ranking were based on three World Championships results: the World Open Championship, UK Championship Championship, and Professional Players Tournament. Each of these events gave one seed to the winner, while the runners-ups received two. From 1976 through 1982, the World Championship was a ranking event. The International Open in 1982 became the fourth ranking tourney. More tournaments were created as the competition grew.
The World Championship knockout format was also reintroduced during this period. This is considered to have been the start of modern snooker. Today, most records are based on the period starting from 1969. The current total number of titles on the snooker ranking list is 31.
Ray Reardon was the undisputed leader of the snooker game in the 1970s. He won six Welsh amateur titles in a row and was also the World Champion. He won the 1974 World Championship. It was the first ranking event. He held the record for most ranking titles until Steve Davis broke it in 1998. He retired from snooker in the following years.
Stephen Hendry was one of the most dominating players of the 1990s. He held the number one ranking for eight straight years and claimed seven world titles during that time. He currently shares the all-time rank titles list with Ronnie O'Sullivan. After the 2012 championships, he will be retiring from snooker.
Judd Trump is the current world ranked snooker champion. He is also the snooker player the year. However, he hasn't yet broken the top spot. At the beginning of 2019, he was only one point behind Mark Williams. Both players will face off in the finals of the 2020 UK Championship and the Cazoo Masters.
Kyren Wilson is another major player in the rankings. He is a Premier League specialist. He is a sports tipster who enjoys playing in both the NBA and MLB. He also enjoys the NFL and MLB. In the last two seasons, he won four ranking finals and suffered two losses.
Mark Selby, a four-time world champion, has been eliminated in the quarter-final and semi-finals of the World Championship. He has also struggled with high-profile disappointments in his career.
